yard Garden Railway. Jeri and I discovered this hobby on
a trip to Walt Disney World in 1996. I had enjoyed model
trains before and had seen this scale myself a few years
earlier in 1993 when I had visited Disney world by
myself. But in 1996 Jeri and I both saw them and a dream
began in our thinking as to a project for the design of
our back yard. The landscape plan already had a pond and waterfall feature, so was there a way to add the train to that? Well after a couple years planning and finishing of other yard projects like the arbor and fence, it was time to think seriously about the train. We didn't have a lot of room so the thought if a raised bed seemed to make since. It would allow the pond to be higher off the ground. This would also work well for the train (at least that was my thinking.) As I write this though it has taking two years, the setting has come together nicely. Though the layout isn't necessarily realistic, it is functional, and what I wanted was just a way for the train to circle the area without having to do a lot of management of the train. The plan has allowed us to do that. We are now building the houses for our layout and this spring and summer will see the plants put in.
