William K Litvin
December 5, 1926 – August 10, 2009

William was born in Killdeer, North Dakota on December 5 1926, the second of twin boys.  His brother George was born a few minutes before and preceded him in death in April, 2006.

Willie spent the first few years of his life in North Dakota a place he loved to think about the rest of his life.  The family also lived in Orlando, Florida during a winter, then moved back to North Dakota before moving on to Oregon in 1938 settling in Aloha, Oregon.

He married Edith Mason in Beaverton, Oregon in June 1949 and they just recently celebrated their 60th year of marriage.  They had one son, Cameron born in August 1954.

Willie worked at General Metalcraft in Portland Oregon for 42 years in a variety of positions.  In the early years, he would meet with co-workers on Farmington Road in Beaverton and they would ride together into southeast Portland where the company was located, doing so well before car pooling was popular.  In the mid 1980’s, the company was sold and the owners decided to move to a location near Seattle Washington.  He was offered the opportunity to go there but didn’t want to move or leave his family.  As the company cleared out of the building in Portland, he was the last person to leave, helping the company pack and move.

He often reminisced about being in North Dakota, on the farm.  He loved to eat good food and family potlucks on occasion when everyone could get together.  He enjoyed camping and many times after a long, hard week at work, he would pack the car and later a travel trailer and take the family to campsites at the coast, like Cape Lookout or the mountains to the Detroit Lake area.   His favorite activities were tinkering with mechanical equipment, gardening, and being outdoors.

Willie was always a quiet man but a very hard worker, always going the extra mile though doing so quietly.  For many years he was one of the lead deacons at the Hillsboro SDA Church and when the church rented their facility to another church that held services on Sunday, he would go in to the church, early Sunday morning, unlock and prepare the church for their use, being available for anything they needed for as long as they needed it.  They were so impressed by his commitment to helping them that when they moved to their own facility they invited him to a service where they recognized him for his commitment to helping them.

The last several years were pretty rough for him.  He had multiple problems, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, leg pain and other issues.  However, he did the best he could, transferring himself between chairs and wheel chairs even though doing so was very painful.  The amazing thing that even though his health deteriorated for some time, his mental awareness continued to be strong and we are thankful for that.

He was preceded in death by brothers Anton and George and sisters Anna, Mary, Freeda, Helen and Frances.  He is survived by his wife Edith, son, Cameron and is wife Jeri, Hillsboro OR, sister, Elsie Peterson, Loma Linda CA.

At his request there will be no memorial service.
