2009 Litvinland Journal

On this page we will keep a journal of things that happen to us through out 2009!
It will also be a place were we will state an opinion now and then.  - Cam & Jeri

December 31 2009:  HAPPY NEW YEAR!  As I write this final post for 2009 I just want to Praise God for being our great friend during this past year.  We have been blessed and have been comforted in so many ways.  From my dad's passing in August, to meeting our monthly financial commitments, God has been there.  We look forward to see what he has in store for us during 2010.

To bring you up to speed on our situation with the water damage from a month ago, we are still without flooring in most of our house.  However, we do have kitchen cabinets back in with a temporary counter while a new one is prepared.  We have new tile in our master and guest bath.  The master bath is done, the guest bath still needs baseboard and grout.  We just had drywall and painting done in several places including the guest bath which is why the tile isn't finished in that bathroom yet.  That will probably happen next week.  So things are coming along.  Look for updates on the new 2010 Litvinland Journal/Blog soon

As I close this year's journal, I just want to thank all of you for your friendship.  We love all of you and hope that 2010 is a great year for you.  We are excited because we know we are close to the second coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  We encourage you to consider checking out the links on the left side of this page for information about God, prophecy and times we are living in.  God Bless you!

December 8 2009:  As you may have noted below, we had a water leak inside our home a little over a week ago.  The result is all our flooring will have to be replaced as well as much interruption to our normal activities.  Service Master has been working almost daily here for a week, removing flooring, finding wet spots and using their blowers and dehumidifiers to remove the moisture.  It has gone about as well as could be expected.  They expect to be done today and hope that is the case.  We just had a visit from the contractor that will coordinate the repair of our home.  The representative indicated that everything looked pretty straight forward so hopefully it will go smoothly and be done in several weeks.  When the kitchen cabinets had to be removed, the counter top was damaged as was expected.  The good news from that is that we get a new kitchen countertop and so we are taking advantage of that and getting a nicer laminate and formed edges.  We are also going to replace the sink with a stainless steel one.

So though we are down to one bathroom, no kitchen or utility room and that our lives have been greatly disrupted, we are thankful that our little catastrophe will be repaired and we will get a couple upgrades and all it costs us is our deductible, a few extra dollars for the upgrades and some inconvenience for a few weeks.  Our insurance company has been very helpful and we are thankful to them as well.

We'll post some photos later.

December 2 2009:  Hi everyone.  Sorry for such a long time between posts.  We had a nice Thanksgiving with family here at our home.  Jeri's folks were here, as well as my mom and my Cousin Darrell, his wife Beng and daughter Hana along with his mother Josephine also joined us.  Thanksgiving weekend however ended on a sour note.

Early Monday morning, about 3am, I got up to uses the bathroom and heard water running.  I had replaced the kitchen sink faucet on Friday, the day after thanksgiving and somehow the fitting though tight had pushed the connecting pipe below the end of the fitting and was leaking.  We had water a 1/4 inch deep over half the house.  Our insurance is coving it though and we have had Service Master in and the flooring repair people.  We will be  inconvenienced for a few weeks, but it looks like we will get it all repaired.  More on all this later.

We just praise God for his goodness, even when the devil tries to discourage us, all things will work together for good to them that love God.

October 30 2009:  We need your prayers.  As you know I have been unemployed since March of 2008.  We have done OK and we will get by.  However, we need some changes to take place so we are asking God what He wants to do in our lives.  We are listening and want to do whatever He wants us to do.

We are living in amazing times, the end times.  I have been saying for some time, "it's going to happen soon".  What is going to happen soon?  Well I don't know specifically, but whatever it is will lead to a Jesus Second Coming and the end of the world.  This is only frightening if you are not assured of salvation through a relationship with God.  If you want that relationship, then look to the links for Amazing Facts on the left side of this window.  There is a lot of information and it's just a click away.  Please, check it out.  I'll be praying for you!

October 19 2009:  Hi everyone!  Hope all is well with you?  I just saw a news item on Yahoo about bogus (fake) security software and how it has been downloaded innocently to millions of computers.  Here is the link: http://tech.yahoo.com/news/nm/us_cybersecurity_symantec  I have been aware of these for sometime and have told people I know, NOT to ever install one of these, but I know that they look so real and legitimate that often people will just click on them thinking they are needing to do so and end up with a real mess.  So PLEASE, install legitimate anti-virus software from Norton/Symantec, McAfee or if you want a free one, AVG Anti-virus.  Once installed, keep these programs current, check for updates.  Most updates will run automatically, but check to make sure the AV is updated and current.
September 29 2009:  Just a note about cyber crime.  I just saw a news story on CNN about it, with regard to getting a email supposedly the from US Census with personal information questions.  I have also had reports of people getting email from Yahoo for example inquiring about use of a Yahoo email account, requesting passwords etc.  DO NOT REPLY to any email requesting any information like this.  No viable business is going to request that you send any email to them with your password in it.  SO PLEASE if you get a email that is asking for personal information, or warning that your account will be canceled if you don't send them personal information, IT IS BOGUS.  DO NOT REPLY to them.

Sorry to be so forceful about this, but I just wanted you to be aware.  If you get something and you have questions about it, forward it to me.  I'll be happy to evaluate it for you.

September 9 2009:  We have been cleaning out my folks garage for a couple weeks now.  Lots of stuff from the last 60 years to go through.  While taking a load to the transfer station a week or two ago, I noticed that my wedding ring was missing.  Not a huge deal for us as we wear the rings just a symbol of our marriage and any band would do.  The ring is special though because it is inscribed with the words, Cam  Jeri 4/2/95.   We have been working hard, wearing plastic gloves and what not and I figured somewhere along the line, I just lost it.  Since I have lost weight, it has been very loose on my finger and I actually have lost it one other time and had numerous times when it just fell off.

Anyway, Jeri had today off work, so we went out to get some hay from Daryl Cate.  When we got back, we were cleaning the barn so we would have room for the hay.  Lots of cobwebs out there so it was time to do it.  Anyway, I took a break and was sitting next to the fence were I feed Lady and Lily and as Lady was coming over to say hi to me, I looked down and there was my ring!  I suspect if fell of there while I was giving them hay.  I usually shake the hay to break it apart so it is more like grazing for them.   Anyway,  I believe it is a miracle that I found it.  Now some would say that this isn't a miraculous result and that's OK.  You can think what you want.  Though it's just a simple band of gold and in reality not that important to Jeri or me as we only wear them as a symbol of our marriage, we are thankful to have it back.  I had just decided to replace it with a Stainless Steel wedding band as I found them at Amazon for just $7.95 and stainless steel works as a symbol just as well as gold does.  So Praise God for simple things, He is Good!

September 9 2009:  Link to my father's memorial page.
August 15 2009:  As you have seen on our main pain, my father passed away early last week.  Here is what happened.  On Wednesday August 5 we took dad into Hillsboro for a lab draw.  it was the second one of the week, he had gone in Monday as well.  The report from the Wednesday draw was that he was very anemic and needed a blood transfusion or he wouldn't be here very long.  He had reports of anemia before (actually had been going on for several months) but had rejected blood transfusions before.  This time though he decided he wanted one.  We asked him several times and he never wavered.  He wanted the transfusion.  So we went into the ER, reported the problem and they got to work on it.  Of course blood transfusions are a little more complicated so it end up that he needed to be admitted to the hospital.  He got three pints and seemed to be doing better.  On Saturday he was moved from the progressive care ward to a regular hospital room with the intent to get him back to a position of being able to go home.  On Sunday we went in about lunch time and he had his lunch there so we helped him eat a little of it, but it didn't agree with him.  He did successfully eat some pears.  We indicated we will help him in the late afternoon to get something from the menu that he would like.  When we asked him about his evening meal he was not interesting in it.  Shortly after that he vomited again and we think he aspirated.  Shortly after that he went into Cardiac Arrest.  He had asked to have his heart restarted when we were admitted so they successfully did so.  He lived another 6 1/2 hours.  We were able to exchange good byes and our love.  He passed away peacefully at 12:47am Monday August 10 2009.
July 29 2009:  Just a note about purchasing computers.  (disclaimer, I get no compensation for this information, I just provide it for your general information and use).  If you are considering purchasing a computer, I recommend purchase from Costco.  Reason is, that Costco gives you a 90 day no questions asked return policy (hold onto your receipt).  Also, Costco extends the manufacturers warranty by one year, giving you 2 years of warranty on your purchase.  You do need to call them (look for their computer/electronics concierge service at www.Costco.com for the warranty service).
July 29 2009:  I just watched “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” a documentary hosted by Ben Stein (yes, Ben Stein of Ferris “Bueller’s Day Off” and “Ben Stein's Money” fame).  This is an excellent documentary about the current state of the argument between Evolution and Creationism or Intelligent Design.  I have always found Ben to be an interesting character.  In this documentary he asks great questions of both sides of the Evolution/Intelligent Design controversy.  This video is available as an instant download via Netflix if you have a Netflix account that allows download viewing.

Watching this documentary caused me to think of my scholastic training in church school for twelve years and appreciate the fact that I had that teaching.  What it did for me is instill in me a basic belief in God and that I am here because God wanted me here to believe in Him and to share that belief with others.

I recently had a short discussion with a relative about church school versus public school and the comment was made that church school just didn’t challenge and compete scholastically to the level as public school does.  With my 12 years of church school I (though it began 48 years ago) I would agree that my church school teachers did not recognize my scholastic needs and challenge me in a way that inspired me to learn at the level I was capable of.  However, what they did do was show me a loving God and helped me learn to trust in God for a lifetime and that to me is far more important than being scholastically successful.  Now, can a person be successfully successful and have a clear, loving understanding of God?   Yes, but from what I have seen in this world it seems that as the documentary above shows, a public education is heavily weighted toward believing there is no God.  That would suggest that a person’s ability to accept belief in God becomes my scholastically less likely if you have a minimum of training about the love of God.

July 25 2009:  An update from the previous post.  All of the presentations from the Prophecy Festival are very good, but one that I especially think it excellent is the one by Tim Roosenberg on the Papacy and Islam.  I highly recommend you watch/listen to this presentation.
July 23 2009:  As you may know, one of the links to the left of this page says "It's Going to Happen Soon" and that link goes to where I talk about the times we are living in and my belief that we are living in the last days of this earths history.  The church I belong to has long exclaimed that "Jesus is Coming Soon".  I believe that soon is very soon.  I encourage you to use the links to the left for additional teaching on this subject and my prayer as I right this is that Jesus through His Holy Spirit will guide you to the truth of His love for you.

About two weeks ago there was a Prophecy Festival near Eugene Oregon.  This link Click Here will take you to a page where you can view each talk that was given at the seminar.  though those talking are mentioning my church in a way that suggests that the information they are sharing is mostly for church members, please do not let that discourage you from listening to the information.  This is vital information to your salvation, to you recognizing the truth about the Love of God, Jesus and his Holy Spirit.

July 16 2009:  Hi all!  Sorry it has been so long.  We have been entertaining friends and family for sometime now and it has just been busy.  Jeri's folks just arrived to spend a few days so they can attend Oregon Camp Meeting.  We had a nice few days in Roseburg 4th of July weekend.

Still no Mr Riley cat.  It has been 3 and half months.  He could still show up, I have been praying for him daily, but realize that with his age and what I saw that night, it is looking less likely that we will have a miracle.  However, I know God is Good and loves me and Mr Riley, so it is still and always will be possible.

My dad's health continues to be an issue.  I suppose that is good because he is still with us even though according to the medical field and his health statistics he shouldn't be.  And even then, as bad as those numbers are, he is doing well enough to go outside on his own with his electric wheel chair.  He wishes he was well enough to have and work in a garden, but that he cannot do.

June 23, 2009:  We just spent several days at the coast.  Had a great time with friends Dino and Cindy.  Here is a link to some photo's that we took.
June 2 2009:  The startup company I have been working with is in a critical time in the startup process, seeking clients!  We would appreciate your prayers for God's guidance and His will in all the efforts of our company personal as the call potential customers.  Thank you!
June 1 2009:  As you probably know, by my link on the left side of this page, I believe we are living in the last days of this worlds history.  That said, do I have a time table for the actual "End of Days"?  NO, I do not.  I base my belief on the signs of a world that is more chaotic and out of control daily.  However, I don't think that is what brings on the "End of Days".  I simply believe as Matthew 24 in the bible states, all the things mentioned that are what has been happening the 20th century and now in the 21st century, all the signs of the times are even more obvious.

I just found this set of articles by Jonathan Gallagher, I liked them and wanted to share them with you.  There are a couple parts to the presentation, so you want to right click on the link and open it in a new tab:

I hope you found these presentations as interesting as I did. - Cam

May 23 2009:  After two months of working with my friend and several other people on her startup business it is finally in the operational mode.  We hope to have some clients soon.  Our interim web page is www.a1-it-solutions.com.

Next Tuesday it will be 8 weeks since Riley disappeared.  I still hold out hope that he will come back, but with what happened to my folks cat, reality is such that he probably is gone.

Jeri's shoulder and arm are still bothering her.  Unfortunately the physical therapy has run out.  It's pretty silly that you pay as much as we do for medical insurance and they have limits on how much can be spent on therapy!

May 6 2009:   This morning my mom called and said one of her cats was missing.  She also said she had seen something, dog like, probably the coyote in their back yard.  I walked around the yard and didn't see anything.  This evening, Jeri and I went across the street to our neighbor and walked around her yard and a little ways into the forested area behind her yard.  Unfortunately, I found something.  I am pretty sure that it was my mom's cat or what was left of him.  I feel awful. If it was Felix, he was a great cat.  He loved my dad and my dad loved him.  Dad already mentioned that he missed him.

Now, I'm not mad at the coyote, as he/she is just trying to survive as well.  I am mad at the devil because this is a small example of how awful sin is.  Sin takes life, God gives life and I know someday and it will be soon, this will all be over, those that have decided to trust God will live and those that want to believe the devil's lies, will die and it will be FINISHED!   Then there will be no more pain, no more suffering and I am ready!  I hope you are too.

May 05 2009:  Tonight marks the 5th week that our kitty Mr. Riley hasn't come home.  We still hold out hope that he will just show up like he has many times before, this has entered the second longest time period he has been away.  We miss him terribly and call him daily, hoping that he shows up.  We appreciate all of your prayers and it is those prayers that have given us peace regarding him.  We know that God knows what happened, where he is, and we commend him to God's care.  If that results in his coming home we of course will be thrilled.  If we never see him again in this life, we believe we will in the next and we are excited and look forward to that for many reasons.
May 05 2009:   Jeri and I joined Netflix a couple months ago after I had an opportunity to check them out as a potential employer.  That didn't work out, but their business plan impressed me, so though I had not been interested in using their service before, I thought I would try it.  Jeri and I have been using this service now for a couple months and we are very happy with it.  The DVD's are delivered in one day from the day I order.  You can queue up movies and the next one on the list is shipped the very day they receive the last one you sent back.  The shipping process is very easy today via the US Mail.  We can also view some movies instantly using the instant view option that some movies have.   We have the $8.99 a month plan which allows a single DVD per mailing.

I just received this offer below, so am passing it along to you.  Normally they only allow a 14 day trail, so a month is pretty good.  So if you want to try Netflix free for a month, click on the redeem button below...and enjoy!

April 28 2009:  Today on Yahoo, there was a story about viruses or worm viruses that are initiated by a user getting a prompt that their computer is infected and offering to sell a program that will clean the virus.  In actuality, the program purchased is the virus and not only do the perpetrators have your money and credit card, but access to your personal information anytime you use it to login to a bank account or other online service.

So, what should you do.  Well, the most obvious is be cautious of popup windows in your web browser reporting that a virus has been detected.  I would simply close that window, do not click anywhere on the window other than the red X in the upper right corner.  You can also find the popup in your task bar, right click on it there and select close.

I hope this helps and that with it you avoid this scam.  If you have questions, you are welcome to contact me.

April 24 2009:  Today is our Lily's third birthday.  Click here for a photo from her birthday in 2006 and one taken just a few minutes ago.

Also, it has been almost 4 weeks since we have seen Riley.  We missing him very much, but trust in God to meet his needs and bring him home if it is His will.

April 22 2009:  This statement is mine, not necessarily Jeri's!  Today there is a news report about the current United States administration is pursuing whether laws were broken by the previous administration regarding interrogation by use of torture, such as "water boarding" and other forms that we probably have no comprehension of.  First I will say that politically, I am a conservative in many ways but would also be considered a moderate.  There are things I believe in on both sides left and right politically, but there are things on both sides that I disagree with too.  So back to the torture issue, I BELIEVE IT IS WRONG.  I wrote that in CAP letters to emphasize how strong I believe this.  You may ask, well what if you were a victim of terrorism that could have been prevented by our government using torture to prevent it?  Though of course I would wish that no one would be affected by any terrorism, that does not convince me to justify torture to prevent it.  The basis of this belief is simple and biblical.  It is found in the Bible book of Matthew chapter 7 verse 12 and is known to Christians as "The Golden Rule", Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.  I believe as a Christian, my calling is clear.  I am to treat others as I would want to be treated, even if they don't treat me that way.  It is my prayer that God bless me with the power of the Holy Spirit to do just that.

***Addendum*** April 27 2009:  I just received a email with a link to this Religious Liberty blog which is a confirmation of my statement above regarding torture.  I believe that those that support torture now in an attempt to gain information thought to protect us from terrorism will eventually find nothing wrong in using the same tactics to convince the few who do not choose to believe in the same religion that the majority accept, to change their belief to that of the majority.  It is sad that this will happen, but happen it will.  Praise God for the prophecies telling us that this would happen and now we can see how they can be fulfilled!

April 10 2009:  I wish I had good news to share, that Riley has come home, but he hasn't :-(!  We hold out hope and we have faith that he still will come home.  It has been awhile since he has been gone this long.  We have seen no sign of him being in a struggle with the coyote, so that is the main reason besides our faith for our optimism.

I have continued working with the startup company my friend from church is starting.  We have been getting organized and planning strategy.  This week was exciting as we got a really nice IBM x3755 server with all the components.  I had the opportunity to create a virtual server then successfully install a free Linux software on it.  First time I have ever done anything like that!  I am also working on the webpage for the company.  I will share more about the company once it is officially open for business.

Jeri continues to have pain in her shoulder.  It flared up after she took photos at the Wildlife Safari in Winston last weekend.  Click here for a few of the photos she got there however.

April 4 2009:   It has been 4 days since we we last saw Riley and he has not shown up.  Unfortunately, Jeri and I were scheduled to go to Roseburg which we did.  My mom has been checking for him several times a day with no sign.  We have not given up up.  He has disappeared for several days before and then just showed up.  We pray for him and God's will be done.

Jeri and I had a nice 14th anniversary on Thursday.  Help her folks get new cell phones and now they both have one!  We then had a nice Mexican lunch and later desert with Jeri's aunt Bev and uncle Weldon.

Looking forward to a great Sabbath day today!

April 1 2009:  This is not a April Fools!  Last night about 11:30 Cam went to let Riley and Buddy in but they weren't there.  We always leave them out until we go to bed or they (Buddy to be exact) whines and complains about wanting to go back outside.  Anyway as I said they weren't there.  Cam kept looking out the window and then he saw it, a Coyote!  We have heard that they are around, but had never seen one.  He quickly went out and chased it away.  In the next few moments he also saw a skunk and two raccoons, all within a couple minutes.  Anyway that was late last night.  Buddy showed up shortly after all that so he is OK, but Riley didn't and still is not here this morning.  Now he is a cunning old guy and has been very alert when preparing to go out, so I now think he knew that the coyote was around.  So hopefully he is just hold up someone, making sure it is safe to travel before venturing out.  To complicate matters further, we are scheduled to leave later this morning for a few days in Roseburg with Jeri's folks.  Your prayers for Riley would be appreciated!  I'll let you know updates as we know them.

Cam's time with Bhagyam and Franklin has been going very well.  They are still in the Business preparation mode, trying to get a business plan defined and doing other pre-launch activities.  Your prayers for that business are greatly appreciated!

Tomorrow, April 2 is our 14th wedding anniversary!  It is hard to believe that it's been that many years already!  Thank you to all our family and friends for their support during that time.  We love all of you very much!

We continue to be in awe of how prophecy is being fulfilled right before our eyes.  As you know, we believe we are living in the final days of this world's history of sin.  There are scary parts of this time but probably not for the reasons you may think.  We're afraid of giving up our trust in God during these difficult times, but now is the time to trust him with all our hearts.  If you are interested knowing God with all your heart then I recommend looking on the left side menu on for "It's going to happen soon.." and the Amazing Facts links there as well.  God Blessing to all of you!

March 27 2009:  The last two weeks have been fun.  Cam has been training with his friend Bhagyam Moses for the new business she is hoping to start soon.  Several others have been training as well and helping with the vision of this new company.  The general business is to offer network solutions for improving network system performance while reducing the overall cost of investment for medium to large size businesses.  Bhagyam has worked the last 6 year developing the tools and processes for doing this and her former company has encouraged her to start a business to continue to offer the products and support she has provided for them.  It has been a great two weeks and we all hope and pray that God's Will, will be done and that the business will be able to start soon.

In other news, Jeri continues to have pain on her right side, mostly in the shoulder, but down her right arm as well.  Per a doctor's recommended prescription, she has started more physical therapy.  We hope and pray that it helps and the pain is relieved.

Just a week till Jeri's and my 14th wedding anniversary.  We plan to go to Roseburg for several days to celebrate.  Should be a fun time with the family there!

The video below is from You Tube and I saw the original mention of it on the news today.  It is a video of a model train layout in Hamburg Germany and it is probably the largest lay out in the world.  The video is amazing.  Enjoy!  (Update, video was no longer available 2-26-2010)

March 19 009:  About 10:30 last night, I realized that I had lost my wedding ring.   Don’t know why I didn’t notice it before then.  I thought about it for a few minutes and realized it could be about anywhere.  We had been to Goodwill, then the feed store, back home in the barn, back and forth to the barn, then out to the manure pile with a couple loads.  So I had been all over and hadn’t noticed, obviously that my ring had fallen off.   Since I lost weight, it has been quite loose on my finger on my left hand.  If working sometimes, I will put it on the right hand as it is a little snugger there.

Anyway, I did remember that I had heard the sound of metal hitting metal out in the barn, but it didn’t occur to me at the time that my ring was involved.  I thought that my coat zipper which has a big hunk of metal on it had just hit the hand truck I was using to move the hay from the pickup to the barn.

Anyway, I went out last night with my flashlight and looked around but didn’t find anything.  I told Jeri about this morning, we both felt sad, but it’s no big deal.  Figured it would turn up sooner or later…hopefully.

A few minutes ago, I thought I would go look again.  I went over all the areas I had gone through, but no luck or blessing for that matter.  I had prayed about, explaining that having the ring was more sentimental than important for any other reason and asking for God’s will to be done.

I decided to look in the barn again and thought this time I would just move the bales of hay a little and see if I could see anything there.  Lo and behold, under one of the bales, between the top and bottom bale…THERE WAS THE RING!.   Praise God for answered prayer and leading me to where the ring was.

March 15 2009:  Last week was an exciting week.  I had two job opportunities present themselves, interviewed for one and had a interview scheduled for the other one for this week.  The first one is with a start up company and is actually the one that is most exciting as it is one where they wanted me.  The product/service that they offer appears to be a good one for the times we are in so hopefully it will be not only an enjoyable job but one that will be lasting for awhile.  The other job was with a company that I am knowledgeable of through a temporary agency and though I think it could have worked well for me, it would have been a long, daily commute to the office.  So the first job sounds like the best for me.  I will tell more about it as I get through training and get started with it.   The first job sounds exciting and is working with people I know.  I have decided to pursue it for now and canceled the other interview.

Jeri had her MRI and Orthopedist doctor appointment last week.  It was good news and bad news rolled into one as the doctor doesn't want to do surgery which is good and bad as it means no surgery, but it also means that the problem which is a frozen shoulder and a long time to continue dealing with her pain.  Her shoulder is a little better today after a lot of rest night, 16 hours of sleep.  Hope and pray it continues to improve or at least is less painful for her.

February 27 2009:  It was on a Friday, one year ago basically today, though technically, February 29, 2008 that was my last day at Tektronix, my former employer of 34 years and 9 months.  It is hard to believe a year has gone by already.  However, it has.  What a year it has been.  My original thought was that I would leave Tek, work with my folks and wife and try to move to Roseburg all together so we could be closer to her family.  That hasn't happened at least not yet.  My dad's heath is not good, though considering all his problems, he has done well to still be with us.  It has been a good time for me to be able to assist my patents with getting to the doctor and other appointments.  I intended to start and look for work in the fall which I did, but in the middle of September while at a nieces wedding in California, the housing crises became the headline news and the stock market responded and went down.  That started a slide in employment with many companies laying off workers which is still going on.   I have applied for several jobs, but have basically not heard anything or very little from anyone regarding my applications.  I have thought about self employment and that would be the best thing to do from a time availability issue, allowing me the freedom to continue to assist my folks with their needs.  However, the government makes self employment pretty complicated so I have been trying to figure out how to that.  So anyway, that is where I am today.  Hopefully I get it figured out and be able to make a little money to help with our expenses.  The good news is or at least I hope it will be good news is that I can draw from my Tektronix Pension beginning in September of this year when I turn 55.  Hopefully that will add to our income enough to make our ends meet.
February 20 2009:  Jeri is still in great pain in her shoulder.  It dislocates very easily and that results in great pain.  Your prayers for her are appreciated.  On the the other hand or leg in my case, my knee is doing great.  I'm not one for a shot to fix a problem, but it certainly worked in this case, reducing the inflammation and the swelling is all but gone.

We are in Roseburg, arriving yesterday afternoon.  Will be here till Sunday afternoon.  Had a great drive today around the country side and even made it up the Callahan, a mountain range to the west of Roseburg.  It was a beautiful clear day, could see forever from the top.  Unfortunately, we hadn't planned on the ride and therefore left our cameras at the folks, silly us.  But that is what happens sometimes.

February 10 2009:  First a report on Riley.  He is back to his normal self for which we are thankful.

Yesterday, Jeri and I both had medical appointments, hers was for her shoulder which has been causing her server pain and mine for a knee problem.  Jeri started physical therapy on her shoulder.  The PT appears to have done a great job of determining what the status of the shoulder is and what therapy to do to prepare for further possible procedures.  The belief is that there is a something loose floating in her shoulder area.  The PT will work to strengthen the shoulder in prep for a MRI and possible surgical repair of the issue in question.  As for my knee, the doctors diagnoses was that it is arthritic and that the solution someday would be a knee replacement, but that would be the last option and only done when other options no longer prevented pain.  The good news for me is that though I have discomfort and have had some fluid on my knee, with a rest and with anti inflammatory medication (IBProphen) it doesn't bother me as much.  So to help with the reduction in inflammation, the doctor gave me a shot (I don't remember what it was) but the knee is doing much better today and over the next several days, the shot should help reduce the inflammation and fluid which we will hope will happen.

February 7 2009:  Early this morning I noticed that one of our cats, Riley, was having a problem with one of his front paws.  He was favoring it like there was a problem.  Later this morning, I showed the problem to Jeri and we both determined that we needed to take him into the vet and have the problem checked.  We did and it turned out that he had a small abcess from a thorn or other sharp object in the palm of his paw.  The Vet cleaned up the wound (which was barely visible) and gave us some antibiotic to help clear the infection.  He already appears to be feeling a little better.  We are thankful that God answered our prayers and that the problem is minor.  Riley should be back to his normal self in a few days.
February 7 2009:  Friday evening I found a email that was sent to me by a distant relative about a letter written by theologian Dr Samuel Bacchiocchi about President Obama, Islam and the Catholic Church.  I found it to be a fascinating read.  Now some of you may be offended by what is says, but I believe the information presented is to important to not share.  So here is the link: http://www.biblicalperspectives.com/endtimeissues/eti_217.pdf.  My prayer is that God through His Holy Spirit will guide you as you read this document.
January 20 2009:  Today, the 44th president of the United States took the oath of office.  It was not a ordinary inauguration day, for today a man took the oath of office for the presidency of the United States who some thought they would never see.  Barack Hussein Obama II by all expected accounts should not have won the presidency.  He is of African American heritage and has an apparent Muslim name.  But win the presidency he did and today I had the privilege of watching his inauguration as the 44th President of the United States of America.  Regardless of your political view, this was a amazing day.  From this day forward, as long as President Obama is the President of the United States, I will pray for his safety and for God to bless him.

Also today in Portland Oregon, the Mayor, Sam Adams, (who just took office the 1st January of this year) apologized for lying about a relationship that took place several years ago.  The reason he lied is because he Gay and the relationship was with a reported 18 year old male intern and Mr Adams thought that if the truth was out, it would effect his bid to be Mayor of Portland.  As I have stated in  a previous posting, if I am given the opportunity to vote on a Gay issue, I would vote against it.  It has nothing to do with hate.   It has to do with right and wrong.  That said, the mayor asked the citizens of Portland to forgive him for lying and I do.  However that said, he apparently thinks there is nothing wrong with having casual sex between two consenting people, even when one is almost twice the age of the other and one is just a teenager.  I find that attitude to be extremely sad.  It is why homosexual relationships are wrong.  Unfortunately, this is what the gay community wants us to accept as normal lifestyle and want us to support by recognizing such behavior by voting to allow marriage.  What happened with Mayor Adams is a glaring example of why gay marriage is wrong.

With these two stories in mind I share this link to a chapter of a book you may find interesting:  http://www.whiteestate.org/books/gc/gc36.html

January 11 2009:  I normally don't stay up very late, but tonight I Just happened to see that a movie called Tiger Cruise which is loosely based on the events of September 11 2001 and a cruise where family members including some children of the crew of a Navel vessel, a Aircraft Carrier in this case are traveling back to San Diego on board the navel ship.  I don't know if this actually happens but for the purpose of this movie that was the premise.  The plot is how the the crew and family members deal with the attack on the United States.

I won't bore you with the details of the movie, but it did take me back to those days surrounding 9/11 and the sense of national pride we all felt and how all of us flew our flag as a tribute and stood together in unity over our fellow citizens that lost their lives on that fateful day.  A lot has happened since then.  Our world is indeed different than it was.  From a biblical standpoint, it is going exactly where prophecy tells us it's going.

Anyway, the movie caused me to be proud of my country again.  Our current President, George W Bush has had a tough, if not an almost impossible job to do.  He said just shortly after the 9/11 attack that the war on terror was not a easy war.  It would take a long time to wage.  This has turned out to be true.  I don't know if there is anything he could have done to make things different than they are.  I do know that regardless of public opinion, if he felt he had to make an unpopular decision, he did so and stuck to it.  That is hard to do for any person.  We all like to be popular.  So I want to thank President Bush 43 for trying to do the best job as he thought he should do it.  In honor of that, I have decided to once again and forever fly our country's flag in the upper corner of this web page.

God Bless the United States of America

January 1 2009:  HAPPY NEW YEAR!  We all say it and I'm sure we mean it.  But then there is the reality!  The word economy is teetering on collapse, there are major wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and just the last few days, the Palestinians and Israelis are exchanging rockets and air attacks.  Many people have lost jobs, myself included, though I essentially chose to accept an offer to leave.  I am thankful that my hopes aren't based on what happens in this world but rather based on promises of God.  Philippians 4:13 for example:  "I can do everything by the power of Christ. He gives me strength.",  So I invite you to ask God to be in your life!
