2007 Litvinland Journal

On this page we will keep a journal of things that happen to us through out 2007  Cam & Jeri

Dec 30 2007:  As this year come to a close, we have much to be thankful for.  We have had a great year and have truly been blessed.  As you have read through out activities you hopefully have seen the blessing that we have been a part of.  Jeri and I thank all of you, our family and friends for loving us and letting us be a part of your lives.  As we enter 2008, it is our prayer that regardless of what happens in the world around us, that you will let God be your friend, trust in him, no matter what happens because He holds the future, a future filled with love, joy and peace.  Tuesday, January 1, look for the first entry on our 2008 Litvinland Journal here at Litvinland.com.

We just completed wonderful Christmas week.  We left last Friday, Dec 21 for Roseburg to spend Christmas with Jeri's folks.   Sunday, Dec 23, Jeri's brother Keving and family arrived.  We had a great time sharing, watching holiday movies, such as White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, Home Alone, and Holiday Inn.  We also watched a movie, received as a gift from friends Dino and Cindy, Mr. Beans Holiday, a truly hilarious movie.  None stop laughs all the way through!

We got home Thursday evening, the 27th and on Friday the 28th, Verizon installed FIOS Internet, TV and Phone service at our home.  We have had Direct TV for the last 8 years or so which we have really liked, but the FIOS system is just as good, and better in some ways.  We will no longer lose service during heavy rain which wasn't a huge problem, but did occur living the "great northwest".  The other thing is that now we also have Hi Definition channels as part of our standard package.  Oh, and one other thing, we also get 3ABN on this system.

This weekend Jeri's folks came here and her brother Larry and Diana also.  Larry and Diana came up Friday night, as they brought Diana's nephew to the airport for flight back to his home in Texas.  They are going back home to Roseburg today.  Jeri's folks and us are going to run up to Auburn today to visit  Don and Karen's kids who are home for the holidays.  Will just be a day trip and a quick visit.

Dec 16 2007:  Had a good Praise Sing at Church a week ago.  God blessed all of us with 4 wonderful songs and a special music. Yesterday, was the annual Christmas concert by our church choir.  They did a great job and we were surprised by a special performance by friends, Jackie and Steve.  They sang in a country style and it was very cute and well done.

Jeri has had a good week on our diet, losing 2.6lbs.  I have decided to continue eating conservatively, but have stopped the diet food.  The cost of the food for both us us has been quite expensive.  I must say that the diet work.  I have lost 32lbs, having gone from a 38 waist to a 33 and feel very good.  I have more energy, sleep better and my blood sugar has dropped to a much better level.  I'm also off the diabetic meds.  Jeri has lost 28lbs and is also looking very and feeling very good.

One more week of work for both of us and then a two week vacation for me and a week and a half for Jeri.  It will be nice to have a break.

Dec 3 2007:  Went to the coast for the weekend, Friday-Sunday.  Arrived about 9pm at the Ocean Lodge at Cannon Beach.  Here are some pictures of our room and view (click here).  Of course as you probably know, a storm hit Oregon Saturday night and continues Sunday and Monday.  We had planed to just be there till Sunday anyway, so with the heavy weather, high winds and snow in the mountains we decided to leave a little earlier than planned and head home.  We left around 9:15 and had little trouble getting home, arriving about 10:30am.  The wind subsided as we got away from the coast but further inland as we passed the summit of the coast range on highway 26, the snow started falling and the temperature dropped to 31 and there was plenty of snow sticking.  The road was slushy so that wasn't a problem.  It was beautiful to see the snow.

Continued to be blustery outside last evening and night and even this morning.  Just got in from checking the horses and they are fine.  Filled the bird feeders so they will be able to get something to eat.  I had Friday and Monday off, so am glad I'm home for this nasty weather day.

Nov 25 2007:  Happy Thanksgiving!  Hope all of you had wonderful Thanksgiving day with family and friends!  We did!  Jeri's mother and father joined us as did Cam's mother and father and we had a wonderful time together.  Our diet continues to go well.  Cam has lost 32.4lbs and Jeri 23lbs.  This is after having some traditional Thanksgiving food items such as mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie!
Nov 18 2007:  We spent the weekend with Jeri's brother Kevin and family in Auburn.  It was good to see them as it had been some time.  We also saw Jeri's brother Don and his wife Karen who stopped by for lunch on Sabbath afternoon.
Nov 16 2007:  A weight loss milestone today.  Cam reached 30lbs lost as of this morning!
Nov 4 2007:  The weight loss continues, with Cam down 27.2lbs and Jeri down 20.4 since Sept 16.  Though we intend to take small breaks from the diet during special occasions.  Even after the diet is is our expectation to continue to monitor our weight and do what is necessary to maintain the weight loss we have achieved.
Oct 27 2007:  Nothing new with the situation with my employer.  Looks like things will continue as normal for the time being.

On the Diet front, Cam has now lost a total of 24.6lbs as of this morning.  Jeri is at 18.8lbs.  We are happy that the diet has gone well.  We both feel better.  I will admit that losing weight is not cheap.  However, the benefits of losing and good and worth the expense.

Oct 21 2007:  What it week.  It started by Cam learning that the company he has worked at for 34 years had been sold (in the process of selling) to Danaher Corporation for $2.8billion.  Tektronix has been a privately held company it's entire existence, so to be a subsidiary of another company will be interesting.  Don't know what the future holds, but our trust is in God and whatever happens will be a blessing.

Regarding our diet, it has been going well.  Cam has lost a total of 21.6lbs, Jeri has lost 17.4lbs.  We both are feeling better and though we have real food cravings, we so far have fought them off.  We plan to continue on with the diet till the holidays (another 4 weeks), take a break over the holidays.  We will work at maintenance so that we don't gain any weight or minimal at best, then after the holidays, will go back on the offensive, to get to our goal.  I have 31lbs to go, Jeri has 28lbs to get to our goal weights.  We are both excited about our success and yet we are aware that we are changing our lifestyle.  We plan when we have achieved our goal, that we want to eat better and maintain what we have achieved.

Oct 14 2007:   Diet update...Our weight loss as slowed, I have lost a total of 17.8lbs and Jeri has lost 12.8lbs.  We haven't cheated so we aren't sure why weight loss as slowed.  At least we are still losing.  We both do feel better and I know that my clothes are much looser than they have been.  Also, my blood sugar without meds is normal.  Not much else is new with us.  We did get out for a nice walk with the horse yesterday and both enjoyed that.  It was a nice fall day with temps in the mid 60's.  Suppose to be the same today.  But then we get slammed with rain storms the rest of this coming week.  So we will enjoy this last day of good weather and get some winter prep done so we will be as ready as we can be.
Oct 7 2007 - Addendum:  I ran over to the ABC today to get some vege food to go with our diet.  On the way back I checked to see if one our favorite restaurants had opened yet.  The story is that Tara Thai, a restaurant that Jeri and I have patronized since we got married, had to close earlier this year, last April and at the time they said they hoped to open another restaurant, Thai Basil over in Lake Oswego.  Well, Jeri and I have check and checked many times since that time and the though we saw the sign for the new restaurant, it was never open.  Well today, I checked again on the way back from the ABC and sure enough they were open.  It was so exciting to see.  I saw Von who is the owner of the restaurant and had a chance to tell her how excited I was to see the restaurant and her.  The new restaurant is very lovely and I would highly recommend going there.  The address is 6328 SW Meadows Road, Lake Oswego.  Phone is 503-601-8424.  The restaurant is located on the  across the street, south side from the Olive Garden.  This is near the intersection of Hwy 217 and I5, Southeast side of that intersection.    As Jeri and I are on our diet, we unfortunately cannot go there for awhile.  As we can't go and want to encourage our friends at this restaurant, just want to invite any of you that are willing, to check it out.  The food and presentation is always wonderful.  Their hours are Lunch M-F 11:00 - 2:00  Dinner Mon-Thur 4:30 - 9:00, Fri 4:30 - 10:00, Sat Noon - 10:00pm.  and Sunday Noon - 9:00pm.

Oct 07 2007:  We have completed 3 weeks of our diet.  Cam has had good success, total weight loss is at 16.2lbs.  It has not been as good week for Jeri.  She has NOT cheated (eaten anything outside the plan) but has lost just two/tenths of a pound.  She is pretty bummed.

Sept 30 2007:  We have completed our second week of our diet and is it going very well.  Cam has lost 12.4lbs and Jeri has lost 9.8lbs total.  We are very happy with our success.  Yesterday we had our praise sing at church and God blessed us with a wonderful sing.  We thank and praise Him for His goodness.
Sept 23 2007:  Hi everyone.  Been a busy couple weeks.  Two weeks ago we visited friends Greg and Laura Hamilton in Vancouver Washington.  We helped celebrate Laura's 50th birthday!  Had a wonderful afternoon with them and their friends.  Then we beat feet back to Hillsboro to celebrate Cam's friend Andy Tomanka's graduation from high school with his family and friends.

Last weekend we celebrated the wedding of Jeri's nephew (Larry's son) Chris Fletcher and his bride Katie.   The wedding was very nice and followed by a wonderful reception at Katie's parents home.

Then last Sunday we both started a diet.  We are doing the Take Shape for Life Medifast diet.  It is a 5 + 1 diet, where you eat 5 of the Medifast food items, then 1 meal of a 1-2 cups of salad and a protein item.  In the first week, I have lost 8lbs and Jeri has lost 5.2lbs.  If you would like more information or are even interested in starting this diet yourself, you are welcome to contact our friend and diet coach Kelly Critser.  Though there is a cost for the food items, we feel the cost is really not that out of line from what we would spend for eating out both for lunch weekdays and our once or twice a week eating out together.   Add to that the cost of just general food items at home and the price is about the same.  Here is another link of a PDF document, prepared by Kelly's sister-in-law that has more excellent information

Aug 28 2007:  We are in Joseph Oregon visiting friends, Dino and Cindy.  We arrived last Saturday afternoon.  We have been enjoying the beauty of the area.  Here are some pictures of a few of the sights we have seen.  Click here for pictures.
Aug 6 2007:  Today Cam had a Colonoscopy (fun!).  It actually wasn't to bad.  The hard part is drinking all the fluid to get cleaned out.  However it is all done, for now.  And...the preliminary report is, good, no polyps.  Don't need to do this again for five years.
July 24, 2007:  As you may know one of our cats, Riley, who has had a history of taking walkabouts (disappearing for extended periods of time), once again went on a walkabout for the last week.  He has been spending most of his time my my parents next door that last couple years as he doesn't like Abbott who is at our place.  Anyway, he disappeared a week ago last Sunday.  Last night he showed up at my folk's place.  It is obvious he has had a pretty rough week.  He has lost several pounds and was pretty dirty so it appears he has had quite and ordeal.  We wish we could know what he has been through, but will never find out in this life.  We are thankful he is home and hope that he recoups over the next several days
July 21, 2007:  Hi all!  Been a busy month since my last journal entry.  Most significant thing that has happened was that we purchased a used pickup truck.  We found a very nice 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Long Bed.   We have had it for a couple weeks.  Today we added a hitch and a rack.  Here is a link to a picture.
June 21 2007 7:50pm:  The vet has just been here and here is the conclusion.  Lady is not pregnant.  We are devastated.  Other than not having the baby, Lady has been showing many signs of being pregnant.  Weight gain, contractions, udder appearing to fill, no interest in Joey, all signs that would say she was pregnant.  Not only that but late last summer, Lady had a pregnancy test and it was positive, so we have assumed she was pregnant.

On June 1 as noted below, Lady had contractions and appeared to be going into labor, but after a couple hours things subsided.  That continued on and off for the last two and a half weeks.  Jeri has spent nights out in the barn during that entire time, to be there for Lady if she needed help.  Thank you for your prayers and thoughts.  We appreciate it.

Now however we must move on which we will do.

June 20 2007 6:00am:  If nothing happens during the day today and that will probably be the case, we have a appointment with the vet to come out to do a ultrasound around 5pm today.   The vet will have to sedate Lady to do the ultrasound as she is pretty touchy and doesn't like to be handled.  We will post the results this evening.  We believe lady is pregnant, but are thoroughly bewildered as to why baby hasn't come.  We have seen and heard of baby being late, even very late, so maybe that is all is.  The ultrasound will tell us a lot more.
June 19 2007 6:00am:  Still nothing from Lady.  Quiet night from her, no contractions.
June 18 2007 6:00am:  You guessed it, still no baby.  Jeri will call the vet today to arrange for an ultrasound.  We have found online that it is not unusual for a baby to be late.  Lady is acting normally, does not seem to be in any distress, eating normally.  She has periodic bouts of contractions, or at least what we would call contractions so we think something is there and is going on.  So we will just continue to wait. We are contacting the vet just to assure that there isn't any problem.

On a side note, today is the 34th anniversary of my start date for employment at my company.  I am amazed to have been there that long.  I have truly been blessed.

June 17 2007 9:00pm:  Still no baby.  Lady did have several apparent episodes of contractions but as has been the normal situation, nothing more than that.
June 17 2007 7:00am:  Yep, no change.  I wish I could explain it.  We are sure she is pregnant.  Jeri has reviewed the dates, she should have been due June 3 which is two weeks ago.   Today would be the last day of the extended time past the due date.  Jeri will call the vet either later today or tomorrow and we will do a ultra sound to see what's going one.
June 16 2007 8:00am:  Quiet night Jeri says as have been the last several nights.  Just before I arrived at the barn, Jeri saw lady having contractions, but that stopped when I got there.  So we continue to patiently wait ;-|!
June 15 2007 9:50pm:  Nothing new.  Will report in the the morning what happened tonight.
June 15 2007 6:15am:  Another night with no baby.  We are fairly bewildered.  Will be updating our journal daily until baby gets here one way or the other.
June 14 2007 7:00pm:  You guessed it, still no baby.  We are as perplexed as can be.  Lady shows fairly regular signs of contractions but they only last a few minutes and then nothing for a couple hours.  Jeri will probably have the vet out soon to check on Lady.  We will of course post here any changes occur.  Hope we have some changes soon.
June 13 2007 6:00am:  Still no baby.  Lady had labor and contractions on and off all night so we think birth is imminent, but nothing yet.  When we do have a baby, will will post pictures here of course so as my boss would say, stand by to stand by!
June 11 2007 9:30pm:  Still no baby.  We are as perplexed as you can imagine.  Bummer is, Jeri goes back to work tomorrow.  Though Lady has shown a few signs of pending labor, it has always subsided with no further signs.  Fortunately, Jeri works just the remaining 4 days of this week and then she is off for another week.  Your prayers for Lady, baby and us are appreciated.  We just hope when baby does come that it's a easy birth for Lady and we have a healthy baby!
June 10 2007 10:00am:  Lady still has not had her baby.  She has some contractions (or what appeared to be contractions) early this morning around 1:30am, but nothing happened.  As Jeri has to go back to work Tuesday, we are running out of time!  However, baby will come when it's ready and that may not be when we are ready!  Finally did get a picture of her yesterday.  Here is a link to a before and current picture of her.  Click here!
June 9 2007:  Still no baby from Lady, however she is continuing to show periodic signs that delivery should happen soon, so we hope and pray it does.  We will of course post that news here as soon as we can after it has happened.
June 3 2007:  Still no baby from Lady.  She showed signs of labor Friday night but it was a false alarm.  We think the baby must have been turning.  Anyway, we have not had any more signs indicating a arrival, so we are just waiting now.

Last week our dishwasher failed, flooded the kitchen (that was fun at 10:30PM on a work night).  However, all is well.  It was 12 1/2years old and had been showing signs that it was on it's last legs.  We found a nice new one with stainless appearance at Lowes, picked it up Friday after work and installed it today.  It is working fine.

With baby due anytime, we missed a big family gathering with Jeri's family to celebrate her nephew Derek's graduation from the University of Washington Medical School.  Congratulations to him and also the her niece, Emily who graduates from the 8th grade Wednesday!

Will post more about Lady and baby as soon as we have any news.

June 1 2007: Lady could have her baby anytime. She is due Sunday June 3, but she is showing signs of restlessness, so we are watching her pretty closely.  Out prayer is that God watches over her and baby is delivered without incident.  Once here we will take pictures and post them here on our web page.  Miniature horse babies are pretty amazing as they are so small.  They grow fast though.  Lily who is year and a month old is at tall as Lady, not quite as stocky yet at about 140lbs.  She is very cute and sweet.  Jeri has taught her to stand on her hind legs for a treat which is quite cute to see.  She is pretty tall when doing that.  We will try to get pictures or even maybe a movie of that to post on our web page.
May 10 2007:  We are just a couple weeks away from the birth of are second miniature horse.  Lady our mare is certainly showing that she is pregnant and baby is kicking, but not as much or as vigorously as Lily did with her mother.  We are excited as we get closer to that day and once it happens we will of course post pictures and information here on our web page.
March 9 2007:  A lot has happened in the last month.  The baby horse and mom continue to be OK.  Jeri is feeling baby regularly.  We have also had friends and family visit.  Dino and Cindy were here for a week the middle of February.  Dino joined Jeri and me at the Model Train Show at the Expo Center in North Portland.  We had a great time there.  We saw a suitcase train again and were inspired to try and build one.  We have many of the parts and the train to go inside, so that is a spring time project for us.  We also had Jeri's folks, brother Larry and his wife Diana visit us for a weekend.  Then just last week, we almost purchased a motorcycle.  Cam has been thinking it would be fun to get back into riding.  Had found a beautiful Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic.  It was Black with Silver Flames, a gorgeous bike.  Last Sunday we made an offer and the bike shop rejected it.  But had a call from them the next day and they accepted my offer.  So I went over and signed the paperwork to get it.  I had arranged financing through my credit union, so I didn't pay them anything.  As we were finishing the paperwork, they told me about the maintenance needed on the bike, every 4000 miles, the valves would need adjusting at an average cost of $350.  I would need to make an appointment, take the bike in and leave it for two days.  They wanted me to purchase a maintenance plan for just under $1000 for 6 of these services.  However, I wasn't planning to spending another $1000 so I didn't get the plan.  I went home, still planning on buying the bike, but got on the internet and looked up maintenance for the bike and found that to change the oil required removing the exhaust pipes and several other parts.  After thinking about this most of the night, I decided it was more than I wanted to deal with.  With the motorcycle safety and traffic around here and the maintenance issues and added cost, I just decided that it wasn't as much fun as I was expecting.  I called the dealer and canceled my purchase.  I must say that I was very impressed with the dealer.  They were very understanding and gave me no problems.  I would recommend Beaverton Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki to anyone thinking about a bike.  My sales rep was Talon Ray.
February 2 2007:  I have just started a link for our next baby horse.  Some of you may have heard that our mare, Lady is pregnant.  Just this week Jeri has felt baby kicking.  A big event as it means baby has grown and is developing as we would hope and pray.  Here is a link to the page and look for the link "Lady's Baby" in our menu.
January 25, 2007:  Yesterday, Wednesday we had some bad news regarding Jeri's full size horse, Keesha, who has lived with Jeri's folks since we got married. Yesterday morning, Jeri's dad went out to feed her and found her in apparent pain.  They called the vet and the determination was made to put her down as she had several ailments going on.  Keesha was just 4 months short of her 30th birthday.  In recent times, it was obvious that Keesha was showing her age.  She had arthritis and walking was getting more difficult.  Below is a note that Jeri's mom sent to us to report how Keesha was buried today.  We want to thank the family friends for coming with their backhoe and helping with the burial.  We also thank Larry and Diana for taking time from their work schedule to also be there to help and the Parkers too.  Here is the note from Jeri's mom:

"Our friend from Glide church came with his son, that ran the back hoe.  They were between jobs, and had the equipment at home. Got here at 11am unloaded their equipment and transferred Keesha across the pasture to the place we chose as her resting place.  Larry and Diana came and helped us move a couple of irrigation pipes, I had put a couple of clean white sheets over Keesha before she was moved.  When the grave was dug, and she was placed in it, Diana climbed down in there with her and straightened her tail  down behind her, and placed her legs in a more comfortable position for us to see her in her resting position, and covered her with the sheets, so the dirt did not go directly onto her.  Ron and Margaret Parker came and were standing behind us, for awhile before I realized they were here.  They have gone thru this with a couple of Jolene's horses.  Keesha was all tucked in, and the rig that buried her was reloaded and out of here a little after 12.00 noon.

We will greatly miss Keesha.  She was always willing to trot over to say hi and get a treat.   Fond farewell old friend....

January 20 2007:  It is Sabbath (Thank you Lord for the Sabbath).  We just traveled up to Auburn Washington to spend today with family and to celebrate Emily's 14th birthday.  We will head back home this evening.

Also, I want to share a document written by my friend and director of the North Pacific Union Conference of Seventh Day Adventists Department of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty (PARL.  It is basically a sermon he wrote about the "War on Terror".  It is an excellent article and I wanted to share it with you (by Greg's permissions.  Click here to read it.

January 3 2007:  Welcome to 2007!  Last weekend, of 2006, we attended weddings of friends Sallie and Terry Settle's daughters Heidi and Heather.  Jeri took photos.
